I was going to use this clip in an article I was writing for Garden Grasp, but it didn’t fit. Most of you have probably already seen the dunk, but watching Vince Carter do it to Zo 7 times in 48 seconds makes me laugh like a cartoon villain.

Thorpe on Mayo
July 28th, 2008 · No Comments · BASKETBALL COMMENTARY
Something caught my eye in a recent David Thorpe piece, regarding O.J. Mayo: “I don’t see a lot of upside with him, but I don’t see much of a downside either. His ability to get open jumpers off the dribble is nice, and he competes pretty hard. But he’s not special as an athlete, so [...]

USA Basketball Gold Close to Certain

Should they have one more big man? Maybe. Should they have more dead-eye shooters? Nope, all set. Lack of distance-shooting used to be an issue, but not anymore. Carmelo, Kobe, Paul, Redd, and Williams are all good-or-better shooters from NBA-three range, and dead-eye from the international three. Wade and LeBron are both streaky, but they [...]

NBA players jumping to European leagues is nothing new. Whether it’s Dominique Wilkins looking for one more year of glory or borderline guys who decide to go and make starter money rather than ride the bench in the NBA, it’s been going on for decades. This, however, is new. Randolph Childress is no bench-warmer nor [...]

Camby Traded for Nothing

At first glance this trade kind of got me down. I don’t care about Denver, so I’m not down because they made a dumb trade and hurt themselves; it’s just that this sort of trade is almost insulting to me. It’s like, “I’m supposed to accept this product? This is the NBA I’m supposed to [...]

Terrell Brandon’s Barber Shop
July 14th, 2008 · No Comments · BASKETBALL COMMENTARY
I found it. I actually just came across it when I was on NE Alberta, walking to the bus stop to visit friends. And there it was, in bright orange letters “Terrell Brandon’s Barber Shop”. At first I thought “nah…” but then it occurred to me, who on earth would specify that it was Terrell [...]

Also, Regarding Clippers Being Mad Stupid
July 13th, 2008 · No Comments · BASKETBALL COMMENTARY
This isn’t the first time the Clippers low-balled Brand. When he was a restricted free agent in 2003 the Clippers made him a bullshit offer, so Brand signed an offer sheet with Miami that was incredibly front-loaded, to dissuade the Clippers from matching the deal. Brand reportedly, “called Sterling personally, begging to be let go,” [...]

Falk v. Clippers Unfair Contest
July 13th, 2008 · No Comments · BASKETBALL COMMENTARY
This back and forth between Mike Dunleavy and David Falk is very amusing, mostly these parts: “Falk said Brand spurned the Clippers once he was offered a ‘take it orleave it’ contract on June 30 — a deal Falk said was worth $20 millionless than what Brand signed for in Philadelphia.” “David Falk was asking [...]
